When Indonesia gained independence from the Dutch, they inherited the Dutch debt of four billion pounds, most of which had come from the Dutch trying to prevent Indonesian independence. Ironic. This doesn’t go into the connections of British, American, Dutch and Australian interests in the area and wanting to create an independent Indonesia with a puppet government that was essentially still controlled by the Dutch/international interests.
